Friday 14th June is World Blood Donor Day 2019
Davies Veterinary Specialists supports Pet Blood Bank and World Blood Donor Day 2019.
With Pet Blood Bank, we celebrate all the fantastic work blood donors do, and would like to help Pet Blood Bank raise awareness that dogs can donate blood too, and encourage more owners to consider registering their dogs.
Pet Blood Bank needs more dogs to come forward as lifesavers.
Pet Blood Bank need more Negative blood
Just like humans, dogs have different blood types and DEA 1 Negative blood is in high demand in the UK.
Breeds which are more likely to have this blood type include:
- Airedales
- American Bulldogs
- Border Collies
- Boxers
- Dogue de Bordeaux
- Dobermanns
- English Bull Terriers
- Flat Coated Retrievers
- German Shepherds
- Greyhounds
- Lurchers
- Pointers
- Old English Sheepdogs
- Weimaraners.
Here at Davies Veterinary Specialists we run regular donation sessions for Pet Blood Bank.
If your dog is fit and healthy, aged between 1 and 8, weighs over 25kg, and has never travelled abroad, please consider registering them as a donor.
Meet Yogi
Yogi is a seven-year old Dobermann. He enjoys big walks in the hills, playing with his sister, and, like all dogs, mealtime and treats. Yogi may seem like a regular dog but he’s also pretty special. So far, Yogi has helped to save the lives of up to 60 other dogs. He is not a police dog, a special forces dog or a rescue dog. He’s a blood donor.
Could your dog be more like Yogi?
