We’re delighted to congratulate Police Dog Finn and PC Dave Wardell for a very well deserved win at Crufts 2019. PD Finn and his handler Dave Wardell were awarded The Kennel Club’ Friends for Life 2019 award.
One of our most famous patient and owner alumni, PD Finn was injured in the line of duty in 2016 while pursuing a suspect. With stab wounds in the head and chest, Finn was brought to Davies with life threatening injuries. Our team, led by Veterinary surgeon Rob Adams, performed emergency open heart surgery.
Finn recovered well and was back on his feet the day after surgery. He was discharged from hospital and reunited with his family just three days later. Finn returned to active duty 8 weeks after surgery, but has now retired.
Since Finn’s recovery, Dave and Finn have launched the ‘Finn’s Law’ campaign. The campaign is driving a new Bill which aims to make attacking a service animal a specific criminal offence. Following sustained campaigning by Dave and Finn, the bill is now in its final stages in the House of Lords.
